Family Docket - Domestic Violence Case Flow
[Civil] [Criminal] [Family] [Juvenile]

  1. Petitioner appears at Circuit Court and is directed to Medical Services (room 100, Courthouse East).

  2. Social Work interns assist Petitioner with Ex Parte paperwork.

  3. Petitioner is escorted to courtroom of Family Division Special Master.

  4. Special Master hears case and issues Ex Parte Order, if appropriate.

  5. Case is scheduled for Protective Order Hearing before Judge by Domestic 
    Violence Case Monitor. Judges hear Protective Order cases on a rotational basis. 

    a. If the District Court has already issued an Ex Parte Order, case is set in for 
    Protective Order hearing before next available Judge.

  6. Paperwork is sent to Sheriff for service on Respondent.

  7. Necessary subpoenas for Protective Order Hearing are issued.

  8. Interns, aided by Domestic Violence Case Monitor, refer Petitioners to services and programs, such as:

    a. Protective Order Advocacy Program.
    b. Community services.
    c. Information on criminal charges.

  9. Protective Order Hearing. 

  10. Follow up on referrals by Domestic Violence Case Monitor.
